Happening this weekend in LA

It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving but that doesn’t mean LA slows down. There’s still plenty to do this weekend. Check out what’s happening in Los Angeles this weekend, November 17-November 19th.

Friday, November 17th:

  • There’s only two weekends left to enjoy Jazz at LACMA. This weekend, enjoy the sultry voice of Sharon Marie Cline while sipping some wine. The LACMA does allow it’s guests to bring alcohol to outside events. (As always, know your limits, stay respectful, and make arrangements for a safe ride home.)

  • The Malibu Artwalk Festival is returning for the 46th time to the Cross Creek Shopping Center. Local artists will display their work and discuss their artistic process. Shops and vendors will be open for your shopping pleasure. There will also be live music, wine tasting from local vineyards, a sculpture garden and more.

This event is free and open to the public, November 17-19, 10am to 8pm. Official Site

  • LA Zoo Lights opens for it’s first weekend in a run through January. See the LA Zoo in a whole new light with thousands of twinkling lights decorating the zoo along with special night-time displays. Take advantage of the $10 ticket prices for preview week which runs from November 17 through November 22.

  • The Grammy Museum’s latest exhibit features legendary Jazz musician John Coltrane. The exhibit includes special footage, audio recordings, and memoirs from John Coltrane life and work. Watch the documentary Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Documentary which will be followed by a discussion with the Director.

Saturday, November 18th:

  • Can’t make it to Rome this year? Head over to the Westfield Topanga to see Up Close: Michelangelo’s Sistine ChapelThe exhibit will feature full size reproductions of the Sistine Chapel ceiling made using state of the art technology.  Walk through large illuminated panels in this immersive experience. This event is expected to sell out so don’t wait.

  • Head over to Burbank for some wine and shopping at the 2nd Annual Burbank Winter Wine Walk and Street Fair. Walk through 30 local shops, vendors, and non-profits for wine and beer tastings while you get a head start on your holiday shopping. The street fair will feature live music and some magical Los Angeles snowfall!

  • Want to stay indoors? Head over to the Walt Disney Concert Hall for Noon to Midnight to experience 12 hours of pop-up musical performances from emerging Los Angeles artists and groups.

  • The Theatre at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles is hosting An Evening with Ira GlassThis multimedia event chronicles the life and career of the beloved host and producer of  “This American Life”.

Sunday, November 19th:

Ancient Forest

  • The Descanso Gardens will premier its popular holiday exhibit Enchanted: Forest of Light. Enjoy a one-mile path through the Gardens that is beautifully and artistically lit with LED lights. Tickets are timed and must be purchased in advance.
