Traveling for Thanksgiving? Find out the best times to travel

Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away. Soon, most of America will be gathering with their family and friends around a feast of mouth-watering main dishes, savory sides, and delectable desserts. Before you can take your tastebuds on a tour of gastronomic delights, you’ll have to brave the perils of holiday travel.

Thanks to technology, we have some tools at our fingertips which can help us make informed travel decisions. Instead of rolling the dice, take a look at at the statistics that the good folks at Google have compiled.

Airports and freeways will be busier than usual. If you’re driving, Google Maps declared Wednesday at 3pm to be peak traffic time. Many people try to “beat” traffic by leaving early on Wednesday but unless you leave very early in the morning or Tuesday evening, it’s not the best idea. If you’re flying, Friday and Wednesday are the busiest air travel dates. For your return trip, try to book a return flight sooner rather than later. As expected, the worst time to return is Sunday evening.

Google estimates the nations top airports are up to 60% busier than normal around Thanksgiving. This means, not only will you deal with the inevitable airport chaos that occurs (such as delayed flights, booking issues, long security lines, etc), but the traffic surrounding major airports will also be significantly worse. Getting in and out of major airports will be a very hectic.

With these tips in mind, you can make a more informed decision about your Thanksgiving travel plans. Once you book your flight, we recommend booking our car service as well.
